HMI houses UTA News en Español (#UTANE), a university Spanish-language television newscast unlike any other in the nation. UTANE leads the way in Spanish-language and bilingual broadcast journalism in the United States; it has successfully developed connections and collaborations with other universities leading to the creation of similar programs at institutions of higher education.

UTANE is driven by the power of public-private partnerships. UTANE partners with the two most important Spanish-language Television networks in the United States, Univision and Telemundo, by producing and airing newscasts and news reports in one of America’s most important television markets: Dallas, Texas. UTANE consistently reaches 40,000 television households (TVHH) and thousands of young adults of Hispanic descent through the unparalleled power of social media. UTANE prides itself in producing outstanding journalism targeting the demographic profile of the Hispanic population in the United States.

All undergraduate student members of UTANE are also members of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) and the NAHJ Student chapter at UTA. These students attend the NAHJ national conference every year. As a consequence, every student member of UTANE has successfully graduated with an undergraduate degree from UTA, and every student secures a professional position before or upon graduation.

The team-building, proactive professional networking, and employment opportunities developed through student participation in UTANE and the NAHJ national conferences are key factors in graduation and career placement success.
